Coffee syrup is like chocolate syrup that
is used to make chocolate milk or put on ice cream, but it has the
distinct flavor of coffee. It is the primary ingredient in coffee milk.
This
product began being sold as bottled syrup in grocery stores and drug
stores and was used when it was mixed with left over coffee grounds,
sugar and milk |
This syrup
is often used to make coffee milk, which is simply milk with this syrup
in it making a delicious drink! This is the syrup that is usually used
in most coffee cabinets or vending machines, It was initially marketed
for children, who drank coffee milk while their parents drank hot
coffee.

Coffee Syrup cake
Serves 9,
Cooking Time Prep time 30 mins, cook 40 mins (+ cooling)

Ingredients:
3 eggs + vanilla essence
1 1/3 cup strong brewed black coffee
1/2 cup light sour cream
2 tbsp kahlua liqueur
180 gms butter
1 cup castor sugar
2 cups self raising flour (sifted with a pinch of salt)
1 cup brown sugar
Method:
Preheat oven to 180 degrees. Grease a 22 cm (base) fluted ring pan.
Refrigerate for 10 minutes. Place sour cream and 1/3 cup coffee into a
jug. Whisk with a fork to combine. Using an electric mixer, beat butter
and brown sugar until pale. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after
each addition. Add half the flour to egg mixture. Mix well. Stir in half
the sour cream. Repeat with remaining flour and sour cream mixture.
Spoon cake batter into prepared pan. Smooth surface. Tap cake pan on
bench over a tea-towel to remove air bubbles. Bake for 45-50 minutes or
until a skewer inserted into centre comes out clean. Stand in pan for 10
minutes. Turn onto a wire rack to cool. Combine castor sugar, liqueur
and remaining one cup coffee in a saucepan over medium-low heat. Cook,
stirring for 15 minutes or until syrup has thickened and reduced. Set
aside to cool. Transfer cake to serving plate. Drizzle with coffee syrup
when ready to serve.

How to make coffee syrups
You
can make a simple coffee syrup by combing 1 cup water and 1 cup white
sugar. Bring to a boil, then lower the heat and simmer until it has
been reduce d
by half, which should take about 5 minutes. Now if you want flavoring,
you have to add those ingredient(s) at the same time you add the water
and sugar.
Or
in 5 steps -
1. Start with enough fresh-ground coffee to make
four cups.
2. Brew the coffee using only two cups of water.
3. Mix the brewed coffee in a saucepan with an additional 1/4 cup water
and three to four tablespoons of sugar or sweetener.
4. Bring the contents of the saucepan to a vigorous boil. Boil until
reduced to about one cup of syrup, stirring occasionally.
5. Transfer syrup to a small jar and refrigerate.
